Why Choose Spider Mountain Excavators Ltd's Drilling Services?

Spider Mountain Excavators Ltd stands apart by operating one of the few Menzi Muck 4x4 Plus excavators in British Columbia. Our M545X model, sourced directly from the Menzi Muck manufacturer in Switzerland, further strengthens our drilling capabilities and expands what we can accomplish on extreme terrain.

What sets us apart:

  • Skilled, specialized team: Our crew includes guides, loggers, fallers, drillers, crane operators, mechanics, and an engineer, each trained to operate one of the most complex machines in the field.
  • Fair, consistent pricing: We price every job competitively and as best we can every time.
  • Upfront consultations: We assess project goals and site conditions early to choose the right approach.
  • Follow-up support: After the job's done, we check in to make sure everything's working and offer help if needed.

We've contributed to major projects, including Site C Dam, the CGL Pipeline, Kicking Horse Canyon, and the Trans Mountain Pipeline. Each of these projects demands performance on rugged, steep, and ecologically sensitive terrain.

How Steep Can a Slope Be for Drilling?

Our Menzi Muck excavators are built to handle drilling on slopes exceeding a 100% gradient (45 degrees and steeper). With hydraulic legs that act as stabilizers, each machine adjusts its center of gravity and orientation while drilling, even on fractured or unstable ground.

For extreme slope scenarios, rear leg extensions and onboard winch systems keep the excavator anchored and stable during drilling. Traditional equipment would require benching or roadbuilding to achieve similar results, but our approach allows us to drill without disturbing the terrain, dramatically lowering costs and environmental impact.

Which Excavation Machines Are Used in Drilling Projects?

At Spider Mountain Excavators Ltd, we use Menzi Muck 4x4 Plus excavators, engineered for steep slope drilling, forestry access, and civil construction. These walking excavators hydraulically adjust their legs and chassis to maintain stability on uneven terrain without disturbing the ground.

Key features of our drilling excavators include:

  • Hydraulically extendable stabilizing claws: These claws secure the excavator to steep surfaces, creating a stable platform for drilling on slopes exceeding 45 degrees.
  • Integrated winch systems: Our machines include winches that add extra anchoring power on especially steep or unstable ground, increasing the range of safe operating conditions.
  • Hydraulic top hammer drill attachment: We outfit our excavators with a hydraulic top hammer drill for drilling projects. This setup can complete vertical drilling with a size of 20 metres by 15 metres.

Each unit in our fleet features four large rubber tires for excellent flotation and traction on soft, rocky, or uneven terrain. This design eliminates the need for road construction in remote areas, allowing us to start drilling sooner and with fewer site disturbances.

Take Your Drilling Project Further With the Right Team

When the terrain says no, Spider Mountain Excavators Ltd brings the machine that says yes. For drilling projects that demand performance and adaptability in the toughest conditions, we deliver results you can depend on.
